ST900e Transmitter

The ST900e is simply the most advanced telemetry transmitter available. The ST900e not only provides high performance GPS telemetry, but also real-time 3D position, and supports a highly accurate temperature probe. The unit can also be set to transmit, record or both. The ST900e is available with an enclosure and an integrated lipoly battery that can be recharged.

The heart of the ST900e is the uBox 5 GPS with -161 db sensitivity and less than 30 second cold time to first fix. This GPS is so sensitive it can hold lock even inside some buildings. The ST900e has an integrated double-helix GPS antenna so external antennas are not required.

The ST900e supports many different radio configurations from 5mW Zigbee radios to 1000mW 900 Mhz Spread spectrum radios. The most typical configuration is the 100mw license-free 900mhz band from 902 to 928Mhz. The unit provides excellent range by sending compressed binary data using the SWARM protocol. SWARM compresses data 8x so that it can be sent faster and over longer distances than non-optimized protocols like NMEA.

The ST900e data is received by a GPSFlight base station such as the RXBase3 USB or Ethernet models. Each base station can collect data from hundreds of simultaneous ST900e units at once.

The ST900e can be configured to send position information including name of the unit, it’s “TracID” over distances up to 20 miles line of sight depending on the transmitter and receiver antenna used. In addition to the TracID, the ST900e can send other location/performance information at rates up to 4Hz or ever 250 ms:

ST900e Position packet information sent – up to 4Hz update rate

  • GPSTime
  • Lat, Long
  • GPS Altitude
  • Heading
  • Ground speed
  • Vertical speed
  • Satellites used
  • Lock type (3d,etc)
  • WAAS status
  • Battery voltage
  • Z axis Position/ Gforce (-6 to +6)
  • Y axis Position/ Gforce (-6 to +6)
  • X axis Position/ Gforce (-6 to +6)

Optional Data Available

  • Barometric pressure
  • Temperature probe (-40 to 125 f)
  • Barometric Altitude

The ST900e also provides an optional ‘short sentence’ mode that sends only core position information for most transmissions, and sends the full update data infrequently to support even higher density networks. It also supports a ‘bump mode’ that only sends its position information if the unit is bumped or moved based on the accelerometer data.

The ST900e includes a highly sensitive 3D MEMS digital accelerometer with a range from -6 to +6 Gs. This allows the unit to report its absolute position in 3D space, important for rollover conditions, etc.

The optional barometric sensor provides highly accurate altitude measurement with a digital barometer with a range from sea level to 30,000ft, and is able to detect movements of 7 inches in real-time.

The ST900e also supports an optional temperature probe that can be used to monitor temperature with a range of -40 to +125 F. The temperature probe attaches to the ST900e board and has a 1’ lead that allows the sensor to be placed in an optimal position.

The integrated recording capability allows the unit to record up to 1 hour of data at 1Hz. It can record and send at the same time, or be set to just transmit or just record. Data is downloaded from the unit via serial cable. Each time the unit is started it creates a new recording file until the memory is full.

The integrated Lipoly battery is recharged by the unit’s integrated charging circuit. The battery provides 6 hours of run time at 1Hz with the standard 100mW radio, and automatically shuts down when the battery is low. The unit can be fully recharged in about an hour.

Additional Settings

  • Static hold
  • Bump Mode
  • Dynamic Platform
  • Sentence size

At only 3” long and 2” wide, its small size and high performance GPS and radio make the ST900 a perfect tracking device to be integrated into recreational tracking or commercial tracking applications.
