XT900 Transmitter The XT900 is an enclosed micro transmitter with integrated battery and SD card reader. The XT900 is designed with integrated GPS antenna and is designed to be carried or mounted in a vehicle. The unit can also be set to transmit, record or both. Recording and programming is via the integrated SD card. The XT900 is available with an enclosure and an integrated lipoly battery that can be recharged. The heart of the ST900 is the uBox 5 GPS with -161 db sensitivity and less than 30 second cold time to first fix. This GPS is so sensitive it can hold lock even inside some buildings. The XT900 has an integrated patch GPS antenna so external antennas are not required. The 100mw spread spectrum wireless transmitter operates in the license-free 900mhz band from 902 to 928Mhz. The unit provides excellent range by sending compressed binary data using the SWARM protocol. SWARM compresses data 8x so that it can be sent faster and over longer distances than non-optimized protocols like NMEA. The XT900 data is received by a GPSFlight base station such as the RXBase3 USB or Ethernet models. Each base station can collect data from hundreds of simultaneous XT900 units at once. The XT900 can be configured to send position information including name of the unit, it’s “TracID” over distances up to 20 miles line of sight depending on the transmitter and receiver antenna used. In addition to the TracID, the XT900 can send other location/performance information at rates up to 4Hz or ever 250 ms:
The integrated SD card recording capability allows the unit to record hundreds of hours of data on a 1GB card. It can record and send at the same time, or be set to just transmit or just record. Data is downloaded from the unit via serial cable. Each time the unit is started it creates a new recording file until the SD card is full. The SD card is also used to program the device. By loading an SD card into the unit, the XT900 will take on the ‘personality’ found on the SD card. This way, units can easily be programmed by inserting pre-set SD cards with different parameters. The integrated Lipoly battery is recharged by the unit’s integrated charging circuit. The battery provides 6 hours of run time at 1Hz with the standard 100mW radio, and automatically shuts down when the battery is low. The unit can be fully recharged in about an hour. At only 3” long and 2” wide by 2” tall, and its recording capability, its small size and high performance GPS and radio make the XT900 a perfect tracking device for personnel or vehicle tracking.
